Joseph R Biden for President - Part 1
This is Part 1 of a series declaring my endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for President and Vice President of the United States of America for the 2024-2028 presidential term.
I hereby declare that I will vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for President and Vice President in November. I also announce that I will vote for all Democrats and against every Republican candidate on my ballot. Finally, I say fuck Trump and, as always: fuck Ted Cruz.
Does it matter? Who am I to exhibit such arrogance and sense of self-importance to think that anyone would give a shit about my endorsement? It does matter because if a fucking nobody like me can see what’s at stake in this election and decides to vote accordingly and announces it on a public forum, it should be high-time for everyone less and more influential and consequential than me, to do the same. Thank you, Adam Kinzinger.
I am making my decision on who to vote for public as a way to motivate others to do the same. This is a statement of purpose; the unequivocal declaration of where I stand on the ideological spectrum and what values drive my worldview. I’m giving pollsters advanced notice of which column they should put me on and I do so proudly.
I am a liberal. My worldview is that, as the late Senator Paul Wellstone once said “We all do better when we all do better.”
This is the foundational value of my political philosophy. This means I favor a leveled playing field, fair play, equal opportunity, equal standing and protection under the law, and an aggressive stance against injustice and inequality. This is what I believe and, because of that, I am a Democrat.
I have never voted for a Republican candidate in any election since I reached voting age. In the past, however, I’ve found myself theoretically agreeing with some policy positions Republicans claimed to espouse in the past. For instance:
I believe in individual liberty and personal responsibility.
In my view, individual liberty, when exercised on a leveled playing field, is what makes our society healthy. Personal responsibility is what makes our citizenship worthy of being called patriotic.
For me, individual liberty gives each and every one of us full ownership of our lives and our bodies as well as the freedom and autonomy to make our own decisions regarding who we are, who we love, how we want to live our lives, and how best pursue our definition of happiness.
Individual liberty is also the metric we use to define how we see each other. It is, to me, the framework that nurtures the empathy and compassion we should feel for each other—because we’re not supposed to be shitty humans. It is the measure of respect and dignity we give ourselves and our fellow humans. It is what sets the boundary that says my freedom and agency end where yours begin.
To me, personal responsibility is the measure of a patriot. I believe I am personally responsible for contributing to the betterment of the lives of my fellow living beings on this planet.
For instance, I believe healthcare and unimpeded access to clean air, water, and food are human rights that apply to everyone, not just to me. I see it as my personal responsibility to do everything I can to contribute to us achieving those goals as a country.
Personal responsibility, to me, is what President John F Kennedy (a Democrat) said it’s what you do for your country instead of asking what your country can do for you. This is why I had no problem serving my country when I was asked to. This is why I don’t have a problem paying taxes.
Personal responsibility means being accountable for my actions and learning from my mistakes. It means being a law-abiding citizen, striving to be a decent human, and treating those around me with respect and consideration in all situations.
There’s a caveat, though.
As a rule, I do not give Trump supporters any consideration. I don’t hate them but I don’t give a third of a fifth of a quarter of a half-flying fuck if they live or die. I don’t care about them. Their lives don’t fucking matter to me. To me, they don’t exist.
Republicans used to talk about individual liberty and personal responsibility. I think John McCain was the last one of them who did and he’s dead. Trump Republicans see individual liberty as a threat to their dominance and they see personal responsibility as a weakness. That, to me, means they’re garbage and it is why I stay the fuck away from them and want nothing to do with them. This is, by the way, how I strive to be a decent human in this particular situation.
Joe Biden is a decent man. His policies are aimed at protecting individual liberty for all Americans and encouraging and rewarding personal responsibility. That’s why I plan to vote for him in November.
More to come in Part II.
I believe the senator from Texas’ legal name is Rafael Fuck Ted Cruz
Biden needs to step aside.
