Joseph R Biden for President - Part 3
This is Part 3 of a series declaring my endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for President and Vice President of the United States of America for the 2024-2028 presidential term.
I believe in efficient, effective, and frugal government.
In the past, Republicans talked about small government and, when asked how they would make that happen, their answer was by drowning the government in a bathtub. That is impractical and stupid but, surprisingly, it works equally well with the broke-ass dumb cousin-fucking rednecks and the billionaire greedy sociopaths that make up their base. So, on that, there’s no common ground with me.
Do Republicans actually favor small government? Not one bit. All they’ve done is grow the parts of the government that exert control over people’s lives while telling their voters that it is us doing it. As usual with Republicans, every accusation is a confession.
It’s not just that their claim to favor small government is bullshit. When they criticize government waste and corruption, rest assured that that is exactly what they’re doing.
In addition to doubling the size of the government in the wake of 9/11, starting with the invasion of Iraq, Republicans orchestrated the largest, most unprecedented and unchecked transfer of public money to private hands—theirs, to be precise.
To Republicans, small government means incompetent government so no one can stop them from looting the joint. In their minds, it’s okay when they do it. Steve Bannon has been promising to de-operationalize the administrative state and offering no alternative other than every person for themselves. That is plain idiotic. If Bannon wants to live in an anarchist paradise he should move to Haiti. Oh, wait—he can’t because the motherfucker has to report to prison tomorrow. Hey, have the worst of luck in prison, Steve. I hope it’s a hellish nightmare for you.
Then there’s Project 2025, The Heritage Foundation’s plan to turn our government into Donald Trump’s personal valet service. Give it a read and you’ll see what they’re planning to do. If you’re a staunch anti-fascist like me, you will understand why giving Republicans access to the levers of power would mean the end of the republic.
The United States Government is the most complex organization in the history of humanity; more complex than the European Union and the Roman Empire’s administrative state. As with all complex organizations, the Federal Government is slow because it has to be slow. Every agency is deeply interconnected to other agencies and, because we’re human, those connections sometimes are faulty and it takes multiple tries to make them work.
As with every complex organization, there are dedicated people with impeccable work ethic and there are slackers and lazy-ass morons just occupying space. I can tell you that the former vastly outnumber the latter. You will not hear Fox News telling their audience this because, like all Russian agents, they have a narrative to push and rubes to indoctrinate.
Like all human enterprises, government is not perfect. I can tell you that ours is better than most. I know so because I’ve seen how it works in other countries.
Now, none of this means our government cannot work more efficiently. Joe Biden is actively working to instill efficiency and probity in the federal government. Al Gore was given that task and so was Biden when they were both vice presidents. That set of initiatives continues today. It’s slow because that’s how it is but it’s going. I say this because I was there. I saw it. I worked on those things and I can attest that it’s all real. Republicans hate that it is happening.
Trump Republicans hate government for two reasons: First, because it blocks them from stealing our money and, secondly, because most of them are too stupid to understand it; just ask Marjorie Taylor Greene to describe, say, the due diligence checklist for appropriations under the ongoing Continuing Resolution or about any other procedure, and watch her yell at you for speaking a foreign language to her.
Trump Republicans are corrupt. It is in their nature. Think about the worst greedy douchebag you ever worked with; that guy everyone hated because of the way he conducted himself and treated others; that guy who had no problem stealing from the company, from his customers, from his co-workers. That guy, I can say with confidence, is a fucking Trump Republican today. Now imagine that guy in charge of a government agency. Yeah, that’s what this is.
Now take their hatred of government and their innate willingness to destroy it and you have the ideal candidate for the Russians to recruit.
Vladimir Putin knows that what destroyed the Soviet Union was the ineptitude and corruption of its own government. He understands that the Russian people are too uncivilized to have a first-world government like we do and that’s why he now realizes he’s going to have to remain in office until he dies.
Putin is deeply familiar with how our government works and he hates it because it was our strong institutional fortitude that allowed us to hasten the breakdown of his country’s administrative state. He knows he can’t defeat us militarily. So, what does he do? Try to corrode our government from within. Putin calculates that, if our government becomes more like his, it will be easier for him to influence what we do and don’t do. Trump Republicans are his minions and they’re doing everything they can to help him achieve his goals. I don’t care why they do it, I only care that we prevent them from doing it.
I’m all for strong, efficient, effective government. I’m all for government that guarantees a leveled playing field that enables free enterprise to thrive in a fair, free marketplace of ideas, capital, and resources, with equal standing and protection under the law. Republicans hate all that. I think this the third time I’m saying this but it’s worth repeating.
Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are laser-focused on protecting the institutions that make our democracy work. That includes protecting our Civil Service, which is composed of the men and women who make our government function every day.
A vote for Joe Biden is a vote against Project 2025; it is a vote against Trump Republicans and their nefarious agenda; it is a vote against Roberts, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Coney-Barrett, and Chief Justice Samuel Alito (yes, he’s the one who actually calls the shots in that dump). It is a vote against Vladimir fucking Putin and Russia.
More to come in Part 4.
Biden needs to step aside.
Sorry. No.
